The story we tell ourselves is our reality. What is the story we are telling ourselves about our lives today? What are we thinking it is supposed to look like? How do we embrace the more painful emotions and journeys as a gift that catapults us into a transformative process? What are the strengths, assets, and “hidden gems” we’ve gained as a result of pain? There is healing power in sharing our stories. The storytelling process reminds us we are not alone. It is an instrument of hope. It helps others to sweep away the prejudices or old ideas that have been blocking them.
Mary Goggins is the CEO and founder of Lantern Recovery Services, a trauma-informed mental health organization devoted to supporting individuals affected by addiction and mental health challenges. Born and raised in Wisconsin in a large family of seven, Mary brings a grounded and compassionate perspective shaped by both personal experience and over 18 years in the behavioral health field. She relocated to Arizona in 2022 and is a proud mother of three grown daughters. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and spending time with family and friends.
Lantern Recovery Services was established in February 2024, inspired by Mary’s belief in the power of taking small, steady steps—even in the midst of uncertainty. The name “Lantern” comes from a deeply personal moment during a difficult season, when a friend encouraged her to imagine a lantern at her feet—lighting only the next step forward. This practice of staying present, of not “future tripping,” became the heart of Lantern Recovery’s philosophy. The guiding verse, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105), also speaks to the mission of offering hope and direction, one step at a time.
Mary specialize in trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy—offered fully online for adults located in Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, Colorado, Florida and New Jersey. Mary's approach integrates EMDR, parts work, and eclectic methods to support deep, lasting healing.
Mary completed her EMDR basic training through the Francine Shapiro EMDR Training Institute in June 2025. She graduated from UW-Milwaukee with her Master’s in Social Work in 2007 and has been working as a clinician for the last 18 years. She is a fully licensed LCSW in the states of Wisconsin (WI), Arizona (AZ), Colorado (CO), Michigan (MI), Florida (FL), and New Jersey (NJ). In addition to her LCSW, Mary is independently licensed as a specialist in the field of substance abuse. She is a Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC) in the state of Arizona, a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), and an Independent Clinical Supervisor (ICS) in the state of Wisconsin.
Embarking on a journey toward healing and self-discovery takes immense courage. Mary understands that reaching out can feel overwhelming. In the collaborative space she creates with her clients, judgment is left at the door. As a client, your experiences, challenges, and emotions will be met with empathy, compassion, and understanding.
How It Works
How does therapy work? What is the process?
Therapy starts with understanding your story in a safe, supportive space. We explore your thoughts, emotions, and past experiences using trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, EMDR, and Parts Work. Each session is personalized to help you heal, grow, and create lasting change—step by step. All sessions are offered virtually for your convenience.
1. Submit Your Insurance or Payment Info & Schedule Your Intake
Get started by submitting your insurance or payment information via email or through our secure client portal. Once received, we’ll schedule your intake appointment to better understand your needs, answer any questions, and ensure we’re the right fit to work together.
2. Begin Your First Session
After completing your intake, we’ll schedule your first therapy session. This is a supportive, nonjudgmental space to begin exploring your story, identifying goals, and laying the groundwork for meaningful change. You set the pace—there’s no pressure to have everything figured out.

Really helped me talk through things I like how Mary talks and gives me ideas rather than sitting and just listening to me. She’s exactly what I need.
